Four Sunni prisoners have been told they will be hanged on Saturday 21st September, 2013.
They were sentenced in November 2012, in a case involving a total of ten prisoners. During their court appearance they were blind-folded, handcuffed, and shackled by the ankle. They were not given an attorney. In just ten minutes, the court sentenced them all to death.
Six of the prisoners were executed in December 2012. The remaining four have been told they will be executed this week.
Despite the date of execution being confirmed, it is still possible the Iranian authorities will issue an order of execution at any moment. According to reports, it is possible that the prisoners could be executed as early as Thursday morning.
The four prisoners facing execution are Kamal Malaie, Jahangir Dehghani, Jamshed Dehghani and Hamed Ahmadi. They face charges such as 'Moharabeh' (enmity of state/religion). Two of the prisoners, Jamshed and Jahangir Dehghani, were arrested after distributing books and leaflets about Sunni Islam.
