The families of four Sunni prisoners awaiting execution in Iran have written an open letter about the men, published by the human rights group, 'Human Rights and Democracy Activists in Iran' (HRDAI).
The four men, imprisoned in Ghezel Hesar prison, Karaj, have been on hunger strike for the past 25 days in protest at their death sentences. Their execution was scheduled to be carried out in September earlier this year, but was postponed for a month by the Iranian authorities. According to reports, there is increasing concern that the men will be executed soon.
The men, who had been active in preaching Sunni Islam within their communities, were tortured during interrogation and were forced to make false confessions. Many Sunni scholars and students of knowledge have been imprisoned and even executed, after refusing to stop propagating Sunni Islam.
Despite the use of 'evidence' obtained through torture, the death sentence for the men has been upheld, and their executions are likely to be carried out soon.

We are the families of the prisoners, Jamshed and Jahangir Dehghani, Hamed Ahmadi and Kamal Molayee, who have been in prison for approximately 4 and a half years. Our children in prison are under extreme mental torture, and at each moment they are at risk of execution.
Now, for about one year, they have been held in Ghezel Hesar, a prison [with/for] drugs. They are being held in difficult circumstances. Every day is an excuse to harass them. We do not know why they are being held in a prison with drugs inside, whilst according to the law they should not be there, and they should also have their case [files].
Now it is approximately 25 days that they have been living on hunger strike, and their physical condition is dangerous. They have stomach bleeding and have fallen unconscious several times due to a drop in their blood pressure, and no official has gone to handle their problems.
We do not know for what crime? Each day a charge changes.
But the only crime of our children is that they are from the Sunni religious minority and they are Kurds. They are imprisoned just because of their beliefs.
For these four and a half years, whilst our children have been in prison, it is not only them, but also us who are living in a state of extreme mental torture because of the condition of our children. We do not know how or where to convey the sound of this [unjust] oppression.
Now matter how [many letters] we write, and even several times we have sat in front of institutions; Khamenei's office, the Parliament, the President, the Judiciary, the Prosecutor, but no one gives us an answer. and they try to move us away. Now we are very worried about the condition of our children.
We request that all International human rights organizations to prevent the execution of our children, [they] are severely persecuted, [we request that you] investigate our children's cases without prejudice. And to all the media, we request that you give a voice to the oppressed without discrimination, to join the families to [help us] in issuing this statement.
With gratitude,
The families of Sunni Kurdish political prisoners
