Six Sunni prisoners of conscience on hunger strike in Ghezel Hesar prison have been transferred to the prison infirmary. According to reports, the prison doctor stated that the men are in need of immediate medical attention.
Two of the men, Hamed Ahmadi and Kamal Molayee, were suffering from chest pains. One of the men, Jamshed Dehghani, was unconscious as he was being transferred to the infirmary.
The six prisoners have now been on hunger strike for 49 days in protest at their death sentence.
The men, Hamed Ahmadi, Kamal Molayee, Jamshed Dehghani, Jahangir Dehghani, Syed Hadi Hosseini and Seddigh Mohammadi, were all active in spreading Sunni Islam.
They were sentenced to death for charges such as 'enmity against God' following flawed trials using evidence obtained through torture.
The men have denied the charges against them, and say they were arrested as a result of their peaceful religious activities.
