A Sunni student who was released from prison earlier this year was summoned to the Ministry of Intelligence and severely beaten.
According to reports, Mohammad Najjari was summoned to the Ministry of Intelligence in Takab, West Azerbaijan province, on 25 December 2013. He was beaten, insulted and threatened by Intelligence agents.
A source told the HRA News Agency, "two of the interrogators at the Ministry of Intelligence in Takab insulted and threatened Mohammad Najjari, and severely beat him, to the extent that the injuries from the blows are visible on his face."
According to reports, intelligence agents also threatened him to stop spreading his Sunni beliefs.
Mohammad Najjari was among a group of university students released in August from Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj, after 18 months of detention. They faced charges relating to their propagation of Sunni beliefs.
He has been summoned to the Ministry of Intelligence in Takab several times since his release from prison.
