There is no news about the fate of a Sunni political prisoner who was transferred a month ago to Sanandaj Intelligence agency, Sanandaj. Foad Rezazadeh was was removed from Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj last month and taken to the detention centre at the Ministry of Intelligence in Sanandaj. There has been no news about his condition since he was transferred.
His family has not been allowed to visit him and he has not been allowed even one telephone call. Sources say this harsh denial of contact with the outside world is limited only to Sunni prisoners.
Foad has not been sentenced for any crime and has not yet stood trial.
There is still no news about another Sunni political prisoner, Aram Mikaeli, who was taken to an unknown location earlier this week from Saghez prison, Kurdistan province of Iran. He had been transferred after numerous threats from prison guards, who ordered him to stop holding Qur'an classes and stop preaching Sunni Islam within the prison.
The brothers were active in propagating Sunni Islam within their communities, and in criticizing the regime. Sunni Muslims face widespread persecution in the Shia-dominated Iran, and many of those who openly propagate Sunni Islam have been imprisoned or executed under false charges.
