Two Sunni prisoners are being transferred to Ghezal Hesar prison, west of Tehran. Kaveh Vaisi and Mokhtar Rahemi are currently detained in Rajai Shahr prison, Karaj. Reports indicate that they are being moved in order to carry out their execution. Sunni prisoners in Rajai Shahr prison are currently protesting the move.
According to the Human Rights Activist News Agency (HRANA), plans are being made to transfer all 26 Sunni prisoners facing execution in Rajai Shahr to Ghezal Hesar.
There are currently at least 28 Sunni prisoners on death row in Iran. The men all face charges such as 'enmity against God' and 'causing corruption on the Earth'. The men are not part of any armed group, nor are they separatists, instead, it is alleged that they are targeted by the government because they were outspoken in defending their Sunni beliefs and in speaking out against the authorities. We were informed that the men were all tortured, with many forced to 'confess' to false charges. Six Sunni men are already held in Ghezel Hesar prison, and, according to Amnesty International, are facing 'imminent execution'.
