A photograph taken from inside Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj has been released recently, showing our brothers during their recess time. Our brothers are held in Hall 10, Ward 4 of the prison complex. The hall is also known as the 'Hall of Ahlus Sunnah', due to the number of righteous Sunni Muslims imprisoned there. It contains approximately 160 Sunni Sheikhs, Imaams, preachers, religious teachers, and students of knowledge. Nearly 30 of them have been sentenced to death.
Rajai Shahr prison, also known as Gohardasht prison, is notorious for its reports of mistreatment, torture, and executions. Despite the harsh conditions, we hear many reports of the patience and steadfastness of our brothers.
Our brothers, when they are allowed, spend their time learning from the knowledgeable shuyookh amongst them. Sheikh Kaveh Vaisi, who was imprisoned there, used to teach many topics in prison, such as Aqeedah, Usool al Fiqh, Usool al Tafsir, and hadeeth. Iranian authorities removed him from the prison and he was taken to an unknown location on September 29th, 2013.
There are currently 7 Sunni political prisoners who have been removed from Rajai Shahr prison and taken to an unknown location. They are all at risk of execution.
There are at least 30 Sunni political prisoners facing execution in Iran. The men were all active in propagating Sunni Islam within their communities, and it is alleged that they were arrested due to their open criticism of the Iranian regime. The men were all tortured, with many forced to 'confess' to false charges. Two of the men have been missing since Sunday 29th September, 2013, when they were removed from Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj and taken to an unknown location. Fears for their welfare are growing.
