Important: Click here to read this clarification about some of our previous statements regarding 'Moharabeh'.
There are currently around 100 Sunni prisoners of conscience held in Rajai Shahr prison, Karaj.
They are Sunni scholars, preachers, and students of knowledge who were active in spreading the teachings of Sunni Islam.
They also openly spoke out against the Iranian Shia regime for their discriminatory policies and oppression towards the Sunni people in Iran.
Openly spreading Sunni beliefs and criticizing the regime is dangerous in Iran, a country which has a long history of silencing outspoken Sunni scholars and preachers through imprisonment and execution.
Most of the prisoners were subjected to extensive torture in order to extract false confessions, and have denied the false charges against them.
More than 30 Sunni prisoners at Rajai Shahr prison were sentenced to death, with many later being transferred to other prisons in Iran such as Ghezel Hesar prison in Karaj and Evin prison in Tehran.
Those facing execution have been falsely convicted of 'Moharabeh' (enmity against God) in order to try and justify their execution.
